Spent sometime with this young lady today. The male was about too but seemed a bit camera shy, will just have to wait for another day to complete the set

A nice shot with a good view of the Woodpecker's face. I like the moss covered perch too.
I'd have prefered the light to be a little softer and more even but syaing that, the bright light has certainly brought out the bird's colour and markings very well.
Good luck with getting a shot of the male.
A good shot of 'Woody' on a lovely mossy/fungi log.
Some whites to me, do look a tad blown and perhaps there is some more detail in the 'blacks'? Wonder what it would look like if you actually cropped in from the lhs into the log and might be tempted to crop a tad off the top too. Look forward to seeing more.
I think a touch of the highlight/shadow will sort the minor nits, Better than i have so would be pleased with this

Hi Calum
Technically great but this lacks something like "naturalness " to it.It almost looks like a studio shot.
Sorry but doesn't really work for me .

Now I really like this one and it highlights the difficulty in handling black and white detail together.
