Other than using PowerPoint, does anyone know of a "simple" program that will allow me to add caption info to an image, but not over the image, either above or below the image, like a header or footer?
Reno, I just posted some info in your CANP message. Good luck.....

Any image processing software that has a text feature will do this if you add a border first. I routinely do it in Photoshop but Paint Shop Pro will do it and I'm sure others will also. I increase the "canvas size" in the "Image" menu. You can choose the color and add a border all the way around or just at the bottom. Place your text in that area. I have created posters with borders that way http://picasaweb.google.com/jim.bullard/AdirondackPosters# by alternating colors in successive steps (the copyright notice is only on the web version). I haven't used PSP in a while so I don't recall offhand what their equivalent of increase canvas size is but I know it will do it.

Thanks Paul and Jim. I have a non-photographer friend that volunteers at a fire department museum and he handles the pics. He wants to put together a CD of all fire apparatus with captions but didn't want to use PP, he asked if I knew of a simple program that would do that; he's not into Photoshop or any other image programs. I'm trying to talk him into using PP. Thanks again
