Wichita Bald Eagles
A pair of Bald Eagles is nesting in the middle of Wichita this year. The nest is on an island in a small "lake" next to a busy street and strip mall. Last I heard, there aren't any eggs yet. The eagle nest is in the middle of a traditional heron rookery. I was in Wichita for the Bon Jovi concert (great time) on Thursday. Weather was cold, windy, and gloomy. Given the amount of visitors everyday, I find it amazing the eagles are sticking around. I have to be in Wichita one day this week and one day next week, for work, and hope I can go by the nest again. This photo is minimally cropped from a 7D with the lens at 450mm. That is how close the eagles are to the shore.

Wow, that's cool! I used to live in Wichita. What general area is this near? My dad would get a kick out of seeing them. I hope you get more images next time you make it there. Keep us posted & share them here.

Angela, the eagles are at 21st and Amidon, just south of the Twin Lakes shopping center. There has been lots of coverage in the newspapers there.

Very interesting. I've not heard of Bald Eagles nesting inside a city. Hope they haven't chased off all the Herons!
