Coming back to Arkadelphia from Fort Smith last night I decided to catch the sunset at Flatside Pinnacle. Glad I came here instead of stopping at Petit Jean. I've never seen sunrays coming through the clouds like this in person before. They filled the entire sky. I boosted the reds in raw and did some dodging and burning. It's a little dark, but i think i like it darker since it emphasizes the rays.

Really cool, Jon. I love the sun rays! I don't think I've ever seen so many. I do wish there was more separation in the mountain layers - they kind of blend together on my monitor.

Jon...This would have been something to see! The mountains look pretty good on my monitor, but I can see your dodge and burns well enough to tell where you did it. This has great potential though, to be a killer print.

This is a really nice image. I see the same potential that Karla commented upon

Awesome shot, John, nice detour you made there!

Karla: Yea i need to work on my dodge/burn skills, it takes more patience than i have!

Matt: Yes i did! My other one was stolen about a week after Thanksgiving, Ive had this one about a week...its been nice to be able to get out and shoot again. It drove me nuts not being able to get out and shoot in the snow while we had it.

Zack: I agree, if I'm in the Little Rock area and have the time i usually try to stop by, such an easy hike up there.

Good capture, Jon. Instead of dodging and burning you might try using blending layers to selectively lighten or darken different areas, or you might try using the fill light and recover sliders in Adobe Camera Raw.
