Knights Ferry Poppies
I'm sharing one more image of the poppies in bloom at Nights Ferry (west of Oakdale off Hwy 108/120) taken Sunday the 7th. Please give me some feedback on the DOF on the rock - should I have put it in focus or is the softness acceptable?

I like the way that you handled the dof.

This is nice, Dan. The poppies look great. I think I would like to see the edge of the rock .and the flowers just left of it a bit sharper. The soft background works nicely.

btw: Knight's Ferry is East] of Oakdale.

Looks like you and Mike had a nice time down there. I wish I could have continued along with you after our morning shoot.

I really like your image. Good dof. However, I feel the image is a little "flat" more contrast ?

Dan, nice work in the comp. I like the 3 simple sections you saw. You could select some of the bright hilights then invert the selection and add a contrast boost to remove the flatness. Poppies are the harder flower to photograph since they open up later in the day and close earlier.

Steve and Floyd
I took your suggestions on the flatness of the image, went back to the original NEFF image and selected the highlights, inverted and boosted the contrast. Here is the result.

I like the improved version, Dan.
