Now that the weather is better it's been good to be able to get back out some. Caught this guy at HB last week. First time we had been back to the bend for a while. I look forward to seeing the song birds arrive soon.

Very nice! It looks like he's looking back at you! I've noticed a lot of them over the last few weeks over at Camp Robinson. The warm weather has brought them back north along with the rodents coming out of hiding. I watched a Cooper's Hawk for several hours in my back yard last week as he stalked my song birds. I had about twenty goldfinches on my feeder this morning. Decided to watch them thru the window instead of chasing them off with the camera.

Nice shot. good detail. A little faster shutter would have frozen the wingtips, but that is really just a nit. Of course to get that you would have to use a higher ISO. I don't know enough about the D300 to know what kind of noise you get at ISO 640 or 800.
Good job David. You seem to have captured the wings about as extended as they get.. they're huge! Love the colors, the lighting, and how you've framed this. I'm not all bothered by the motion blur on the wing tip, but I am surprised that 1/640 didn't freeze everything, though I don't have any experience shooting moving objects.
