Longs Peak Sunrise - today
Here's the sunrise on Longs Peak this morning (Thursday), from the Dream Lake trail. There was just enough of a crack on the horizon for a few minutes of sun on the peak. That's the last I saw of it all day.

As you can see, the snow pack was rather sparse. No need for snowshoes on the trail. I suspect this will be a winter wonderland in a few more hours.

Canon 70-200mm f/4 IS @ 200mm

On a side note:
I just discovered that the Board on Geographic Names officially ruled there is no apostrophe in the name! I just assumed it had to be "Long's Peak", and you guys were just sloppy.

#2 - A wider view with the Canon 100mm L

Both images are single exposures. I tried a 5 image +2EV to -2EV blend. But I prefered the single exposures because they were sharper.

Todd, don't worry, I have no intention of posting any ice abstracts from Dream Lake.

Post away, Bill. Who the hell cares what I think?
FWIW, these are gorgeous! The colors are stunning. As for the lack of snow, that's surprising. I was just driving past the Sierra Blanca and over La Veta Pass yesterday, marveling at how much snow was down there. Like you infer, it's changing as I type this, but I would've expected more.

Long ago the Board of Geographic Names scrapped the possessive nature of feature names, I assume to avoid confusion, since some things are named after people, and some aren't, so they just went for consistency.

Beautiful Bill! I always love that view of Longs. It sure does look different out there right now! One news channel just said that they think we could get another 20" today. Spring in the Rockies is great!

Really great colors Bill. I like them both.

Nice Bill - very sharp and I love the simplicity of #1.

I like the wider view better - the mountain has that feeling of a sketching with the bold lines - and the colors are awesome!

Nice work Bill I love that view as well and, in particular, the landscape layout here.

Nice capture Bill. Really like #2.

Great light on both!
I think the dynamic range in #2 is just fine as is.

Thanks for your feedback on the composition, guys.

Even though that view has been shot a zillion times, I just couldn't pass up that sweet light.

Eric, I hope you get your 20"+, and expect to see some great shots from you tomorrow.

#2 gets my vote, but both are gorgeous. Love the glow in both shots!

Both are beautiful, although I favor that second one, that glowing cloud adds a lot.

I'm late to this party. Excellent work, Bill. I prefer #2 overall, but #1 does have a strong graphic appeal.

Beautiful color! Love the focus on the lines in #1 - my fave.
