Woodpigeon.
Canon 20D, Canon 500mm f4 & Canon 1.4X Extender, beanbag on car window
1/200 sec @ f5.6, ISO 400, -1/3 exposure compensation.
Full frame, levels, hue/saturation.

Hi,

I'll give you a break from Roe deer, for now

I'm almost embarrassed to post such a common species with all the wonderful and more exotic species we get on the forum.
Anyway, this caught my eye last Spring, the way the Woodpigeon was emerging from a 'wall' of almost pristine fresh, Spring folliage.

Common species or not, it is still an excellent image. Strong colours and a great POV.

I would rather had a cracking shot of a sparrow than a poor shot of a mongolian red brested lesser spotted fly catching diver !. Nice clean pic.

Bob has it spot on. It's a great shot Justin, well observed. I think they are beautiful, but then I don't grow rape. Millions of them around here this year.

Doesn't have to be a rare species to be a good photo and this is a great pose worthy of posting. :toast:

An excellent image. Love that bright green foliage as well as the crisply detailed birdie.

It's a photography critique forum Justin, not a species showcase; and good photography of common species is as rare as hens' teeth - so never be embarrassed for posting good images - no matter what the species....

Comp is good and the subject looks great against that green foliage.

Not anywhere near as easy a subject as it's commonality might suggest - especially when executed to this level at any rate - top class image imo Justin - nice one :toast: :toast:

Thanks for that Andy  I guess it's about being out there in the great outdoors and the love for nature that matters, whether that be a far flung corner of the world or your own back garden. :toast:

Very nice image Justin. I must pay more attention to these birds as I have a pair come into the garden nearly every day.
