I thought this one suited a panoromic format, not least because the reflections were very different at the top of the image.

Canon 7D with 400mm lens at f5.6, ISO 400. Full frame in terms of width but cropped top and bottom.

It's best viewed a bit larger so here's a 1100 pixel version.

All C+C welcomed.

thanks Simon. The original is pin sharp so I perhaps didn't sharpen enough after resizing. I'm always wary of oversharpening and probably sometimes tend to undersharpen as a result.

Hi Matt,

very nice shot and lovely colours in the water.

Really nice. I like the way the bird is sat in a ring of ripples. Is my imagination or does it need a slight AC rotation?

It's probably all the soft feathering around around that huge rear end  that makes it look a little softer than it is.The head is pin sharp.
Really nice image,Matt.

Very nice, the 1100 version looks enough sharp to me around the head but the rear looks a litte soft.

Lovely warm tones and the look back pose works well here.

Very nice shot, Matt. I think this definately suits the pano, to get more of the concentric rings from the grebe into the image, really like the lighting and warm tones too.

This is one of those images that it takes me a time to understand what I feel could be better, but I have a feeling that moving the grebe to the L therefore including the final part of the ring ripple on the R would make it more "complete" - an opinion...
