I guessing it's still a bit early for Arvin I went this past Saturday and didn't see the colors that were there this time last year. It seems that the blooms are showing themselves at the lower elevations right now. You can get some tight shots, such as the one above, but nothing vast. I also took a trip up Kern Canyon again nothin, lotsa green but very little color. Guess I'll give it a couple weeks and try again.
Try Caliente the road out of town I was there Sunday lots of color from 1,500 fet to 3,000 but definitely not at peak yet. Some areas with the same combo as your image, like the backlighting on the poppy.
