I went on a short backpacking trip to Pawnee Buttes a few weeks ago. I was hoping to get a great sunrise shot of the buttes. Unfortunately dense fog moved in over night. I think that fog an interesting medium which is challenging to make good compositions. This is probably because we see so little of it here in Colorado. Here are a few shots from the trip.

Here is a friend of mine looking the wrong way at sunset. This was about all the color we saw.

Right before the fog moved in I tried to do some Night photography. I took this shot with a old crappy 50mm 1.4 from 1970. This is straight out of the camera I though the results were rather interesting. Almost looks unearthly.

Looks like you had some unique conditions out there Jim, I like #1 in the fog, and the nighttime shot looks like it could be Mars!.

Not sure how I missed this thread. Cool shots, Jim. I really like that first one, but given my propensity for foggy photos (and thinking), that's not too surprising. Your night shot, which you say almost looks unearthly, actually does—it looks like it could've been taken on Mars!

I want to get back out there this spring.
