Environment change within an hour.
My previous post illustrated the struggle I had in grey overcast light within the hour the scene changed with dramatic effect. Well worth the early start.

A rare sighting of the early sunrise and still -19 at the time.

The early birds Sandhill Cranes leaving the Platte River roost.

Canon 1D3 Canon 800mm 5.6 ISO800 800mm f/16 1/2000sec.

Critique, Comments, and advice always most welcome. Good or bad that's how I learn.

Thanks for looking.

A nice atmospheric shot Barry. I am not sure if the sun doesn't overpower the birds or not but I like it anyway. If I wanted to nit pick then you could think about cloning out the mast? next to the water tower in the bottom right. Worth getting up for and braving the cold :toast:

Hi Barry, great conditions though I would prefer for the birds to be bigger but that was probably out of your control. I agree with Andy about the mast. :toast:

Great colours and athmosphere here, I do feel the birds are a little overpowered by the sun  :wavey:

I keep coming back to this as i think it has a lot of potential as an idea however the placement of the flock in the darkest cloud makes this particular rendition of that idea a bit problematic. Do you have any early or later in the sequence?

Think I'd have been tempted to go for an image like this only if the cranes were closer, hence bigger in the frame, so that they could compete against the very prominent sun. As it is, it's not working on any level for me.

Thanks for the comments guy's its all food for thought.

Tom
Yes I do have a whole bunch with birds closer and also silhouetted both with sun in the BG and just grey cloud. This subject seems to be one that is ripe for adjustment or manipulation depends on what you need to achieve. Also have the sunrise with less proportion of sun in fact almost all stages.

I have mentioned previously that my level of knowledge is way down so I tend to post the problem shots looking for advice. Then I try and remember the tips and advice all easier said than done.

Another batch of shots show 40-50 cranes in descent most sharp and looking like para's again this has potential with PS expertise. If you would like to see them zip me an e-mail.
