sorry this is not an attempt to hijack the previous post on web
images, and is of a slightly different vein.

besides my computer decided to crash and die this morning and i was in the middle of PSing my somewhat daunting number of images from the recent galapagos trip, so am taking the forced respite as an opportunity to reflect on things web, or at least take my mind of not crying until i get it back repaired.....

i was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on what constitutes an optimum number of images/pages on a website, i have plenty of (what i think!) are good images to put up on my pages, and i only really use my site as a showcase for my work rather than a whole sale base, rather i leave that up to my representative agencies. so given that there is a point when the viewer gets bored or indifferent and pushes the next page button or worse, what is the number of images that is generally accepted as that point? i have about 20 or so images on each page, is that too many, are they big enough? too big? too small? do i have too many pages?? any feedback would be greatly appreciated, and it wil give me something to do to go to the netcafe and read the responses whilst i await the repair bill

best regards,

mark.

PS, yes phil, the shark image is on it´s way, when i get the laptop back!!!

Hi Mark
I have recently had my website remodeled so have gone thru the same thing,I dont think 20 images a page are too many as long as you are selective,Get some friends to have a look at the draft and get some comments,I have had a look at your web site and the question is,is there anything that you dont photograph,I always associate you with underwater photography but you seem to be talented enough to put your camera to use to most subjects so maybe you need more than one site,Maybe one for weddings and portraits and one for wildlife and underwater stuff-busy man-we are not worthy

thanks dave!! well, maybe not so talented, just determined that i will make money from my camera so have learned to point it in any direction!! when (if) the day comes i can live from solely underwater images, believe me i will be more than happy. but yes i know what you mean, i have often thought of just doing underwater images, and a seperate site for other stuff, and even that could be two other sites, for example, trying to market glamour work alongside family portraiture doesn{t really go to wel together, so any feedback on ths too would be useful.

best regards,

mark.

This is something I gave a lot of thought to whenI rebuilt my website 2 months ago. For now I have decided to have 15 thumbnails per gallery page and split the galleries over 2 pages (so a maximum of 30 images per gallery). I am also very selective with what I put on there which means those 30 spaces will be slow to fill up. Once they do fill up I have two options:

Start removing some of my least favourite pictures and replacing them with better ones as they are taken (which will keep the site fresh with new photos), or...

Add a 3rd page to the galleries if I can't bring myself to delete older pics but then you have the potnetial of putting people off looking if there are too many images to go through.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it ultimately, as long as your happy with it thats all the really matters :)
