anybody out there with a photo business who does stock photos, art shows, and sales in galleries (or any combination) have a preference/recommendation in accounting software for keeping track of sales, purchases, inventory, etc.?
I've kinda been eyeing quickbooks pro...but I'd sure appreciate to hear what you like/use for the same.

Not that I'm actually "selling" much (although I am working on selling a BIG print of this: Falls Creek) I found Microsoft Money for Small Business to be quite workable.

I don't use it but Quickbooks is supposed to be pretty good. Heck, Quicken could probably do a good job. I avoid anything Microsoft just out of general principal.

My wife worked 25 years in accounting with one regret: She wished Quicken or Quickbooks had been viable for her specific needs. She's used one version or the other for most of the 15 years we've been running our photo business, and says there's nothing else that even comes close for ease and versatility. We're tracking studio, editorial, location, contract, fine art, stock and industrial photo projects, each with their own unique criteria. "On the side" we're also running a ranch through the books. It would be a sincere snake's nest without Quicken or Quickbooks.

Our CPA agrees, and says he recommends one or the other to all his clients, depending upon the size of their operations.

We used to own Quickbooks Pro years ago - then they pulled support for it away from the Macintosh. Now it's back - I have a bad taste in my mouth because of this, but it is a very good application. I need to contact them and see if they can help me update that old version to OSX......

Rick - I have used various versions of Quicken, Quickbooks, and Quickbooks Pro over my 15 years in accounting management. Any version will work well for you, Quickbooks Pro may be a bit of overkill for your needs. All of them are quite user friendly and reasonably priced. I am total PC based though, I can't remember if you are a mac or pc guy. Good luck.

We're using it on Mac. My wife "grew up" accounting on PC's, but has no complaints about performance on Mac. Happy world, whichever system you're on.
