Found out the other day that my image, "Praying for Salvation" was selected for the Barrett Art Center's (Poughkeepsie, NY) 23rd Annual National Juried Photo Exhibition, "Photowork 2010"!!
I was really excited, as the juror for the show was Nat Trotman, Associate Curator at the Guggenheim Museum of Art in NYC. It's my second "national" exhibit in this my 3rd year of entering a very limited number of shows.
Anyway, I have never been to the Barrett or in my short experience heard of their show, but was wondering if any of you have.
The image posted is the one selected. It shows the shadow of a stairwell on a spillway wall, with three apparition-like figures (leftover ice and snow) waiting to ascend to the afterlife.
I originally posted a version of this in the M&N Gallery, thinking that the sun causing the shadow, the ice and snow comprising the figures, etc. were enough to make it OK for NPN. Kah Kit, understandably, raised the point that it was borderline for this setting. So I'm not sure whether I will post or not, or send it to him ahead of time to take a look at.
Well, I'm rambling, just wanted to share the good news and get any info about Barrett from the wealth of knowledge here. Thanks for looking and reading.

Congratulations and it is a very nice photo. This also brings up a thought. There are a lot of shows that many of us never hear about until someone here gets accepted. Could we have a branch of the forum where such things could be posted along with links to entry procedures?
The NENP forum is used for the interests of the photgraphers who participate with the primary purpose exchange of photos, ideas, information about nataure photography. I don;t think a reasonable level of information on various exhibits and shows in the Northeast would be out of line with the forums purpose and in fact may be welcomed by most of the photographers. I would have a hard time saying how much would be too much but I suspect I would recognize that when and if it happens.
Bill - Nice image and congrats on the nomination to the show! We have more flexibility here in the regional forums and your report of the honor accorded your photo along with its posting is something I am happy to see. It is always good to hear about the successes of members of the NENP forum!
Thank you both Jim B. and Jim D. I appreciate your comments. PLease pardon my exhuberance.
I don't enter many juried exhibits outside of my region, but one resource I've found as helpful is www.artdeadline.com. It is neither nature-specific nor photo-specific, but you can generally find some opportunities there. Actually, I believe the Merritt Show above was listed in my local (Scranton, PA) gallery's monthly newsletter.
Thanks again!!
