Burrowing through the disaster area that is my photo collection, I came across a couple large format pics from probably 2004 that I had never done anything with. This is up on Quail Mountain, looking north over the Arkansas River Valley at sunrise. The eastern end of Twin Lakes Reservoirs would be somewhere under there, and the "town" of Granite. I cropped off excess negative space at the bottom, but other than that, they're pretty much intact.

Wow -- nice find, Todd! I really dig the colors in #1 but the light in #2 is pretty sweet. Its like a treasure hunt when you find jewels like these!

Both are pretty cool, but I think I like #1 a little better. I like the pinks in the sky, the colder color balance below and that small break in the fog on the bottom center left.

The two bands of lit-up clouds in #2 are cool, but the tree silhouettes make #1 stronger for me. Maybe a small crop from the top to lose the bright yellow sky?
Oh yeah, the color in the sky and the luminosity in the fog layer make #1 a KILLER! #2 is great with that light skimming across the clouds, but #1 is in a class by itself.
Very nice, Todd. I favor the first one too just a bit. The beautiful colors and the fog breaking over those smaller trees in the lower center on the first are great, but I also like the clean lines without the large foreground trees in the second one.

Just a thought. I certainly wouldn't want to lose much of the pink clouds. But subtracting that clear band at the top makes it a little moodier and more dramatic for me: the difference between "weather's clearing up" and "Gonna be a stormy one." But I still love the image either way!

Both are excellent finds Todd. I lean towards #1 myself. The colors have greater purity and the silhouettes of the spruce gives a better overall structure.
