I made a trip to Longpool and Pam's Grotto yesterday afternoon. The conditions were PERFECT!! I tried to go to Haw Creek Falls and Pack-Rat Falls too but Haw Creek was too high to cross.
This was my first time to Pam's Grotto and I was blown away. I've seen lots of photos of the falls but never any photos of the stream that leads up to the falls. STUNNING! I totally get why Tim thought this area was worthy to be named after his bride.
Since this was my first time into the area, I decided to hike the stream which was pretty easy. The amount of water flowing and the huge moss-covered boulders were wonderful.

Has anyone ever been above Longpool or Pam's Grotto? I'm curious was sites are up there. I tried to find a way above Pam's Grotto but couldn't find a way around the bluffline.
All photos taken with Nikon D300 and either Sigma 10-20EX or Nikon 24-70 2.8 with circular polarizer.

Nice series. I like the one with a person in the frame to give those of us who've never been a sense of scale.

Looks like you picked a good time to go. The water levels look really good. I've not made a trip to either location, so your series just whets my appetite to get up there. Some really good shots on your blog.

very timely post matt!. i am leaving central mo tomorrow morning to come down there and planned pam's grotto on either sunday or monday morning. your blog really king of got me ready for the trip! nice photos and a good image description of the area. i just really hope we get a little more rain on saturday to help keep things running for me a little longer!! thanks to your blog i may also try to take the family over to longpool...or at least research that possibility, you made it sound like a good destination for kiddos.
I've been pretty far above Longpool. There is a nice cascade right above Longpool falls. I think hiking the stream is easier than the actual trail.

Looks like you picked the perfect day Matt! I really love the shot looking down from Longpool. I don't think I've ever seen it run that much. Very cool!

Hey John, You have a photo on your website in the recent photos gallery entitled "Falling Water Creed Drainage." Where on Falling Water Creek is that waterfall? Is that Keefe Falls?

Sorry for the delayed response.. That waterfall is very near Keefe Falls.. in the next drainage over to the south. You would take the same trail to Keefe Falls, and then hang a right where the stream forks. The pool at the base of the falls was just amazing... deep, clear and an awesome shade of emerald.
