I use CS4. I have tried to use the image size adjustment. I cannot seem to figure out how to resize a photo at 1200p long side and having to keep the 200 max kb as required to post on in the gallery.
How do some of you get the large pictures, I am able to get around 3/4 of less of what some of you post??
Any ideas??
Thanks for any comments......Dave

Dave - First, the 1200 pixel images have a 500kB requirement. The 720 pixel images have a 200 kB requirement. Maybe that's the main problem.
As far as resizing steps, there are quite a few threads on this if you search around I think. At a basic level it's two steps :
1) Resize to 1200 pixels (or whatever your target is). This part you're already doing. Don't worry about file size here.
2) Save as a JPG and adjust the quality setting to make the file less than your target number. I've found that I can go pretty low - maybe 6 or 7 in PS - without the image degrading much. (That's 50% or so if you're using a percent scale.)
You might want to see this article, linked from the "HELP!" page in the menus.

Dave, once you've resized, you can select Save for Web and Devices... from the File menu. here, select jpg as what you want to save as, and at lower left you should see something that shows the file size that will be saved. if it's higher than the 200kb/500kb limits, go to the upper right where there is a quality setting. reduce the quality until the file size is appropriate (and give yourself a bit of leeway, sometimes the actual saved file is a bit larger). I typically only have to go to 85-95% on the quality slider before the file size is right.
Thanks for the info, the only other thing that I am confused about, when I tried to upload a file in the gallery section for the 1200/500, one photo was 1200 at 350kb, I was prompted that the file exceeded the 200kb requirement, How do these numbers tie in together, I would assume that the 1200 at 350kb would have met the requirement! What am I missing?????
Nice to see I am not the only one having trouble with this issue. I guess misery does love company.
Thanks for letting me ease drop on this little exchange, I may try loading more photos with this fresh in mind.
