A Comparison...
I posted the color version below earlier on ESS. Although the light wasn't that great in this alternate composition, I loved the clouds and so I decided to try a B&W version. I like the way it turned out. Which do you prefer?

here is the original color version for comparison...

Anish, I like the color version, the bw doesn't seem to have the same contrast as the color version. I think a little more work on contrast and such will really make the bw version stand out, very nice comp though, well done :toast:

Anish, Is the light on the rocks the same in both color versions? I notice from the cloud formations that the B-W version is not a conversion of the color image you display here. What would the B-W look like if you converted the color version displayed above?

Color for me, the golds and blues really compliment each other nicely. You lose all those nice shadows in the b&w.

Although they're both well done, I prefer the color version.

I vote for the black and white one.

Thanks, guys. Craig, this is a different exposure in different light. There was a soft cloud cover blocking the sun here so I didn't get the same contrast and color on the rocks as I did with the color version. I could probably work on the contrast a bit more in the B&W version to give it some more pop, though. Thanks again.

I like the color version best, but both are excellent. The B&W needs a bit more tweaking to make it pop - contrast, etc.

Color seems to have a lot more depth. For me it seems the subject would be better presented as b&w as you did, but I'd like to see more contrast and depth to bring it to life a bit more.

I much prefer the B&W. I find it far more dramatic and compelling.

I think this kind of scene is made for B&W, but I wish the three fg boulders had the pop (contrast) as in the color version. If you can adjust that, Id' prefer the B&W with those beautiful cloud formations. Nice work!
