Last week I spent three days exploring the White Rim in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands NP. More than anything it was a scouting expedition for future trips, photo opportunities and possibly even overnight photo tours. We did experience some interesting weather while there including this storm that blew in from the rim and quickly unleashed rain, snow, sleet and wind.
I made this image at the bottom of Lathrop Canyon just a few feet from the Colorado River. You're looking up canyon to Airport Tower on the left. I converted to black and white because the light wasn't spectacular and the various textures and layers seemed to work best in monotone. Certainly not a stunner but I think it's interesting enough to keep in the collection.
Thanks for having a look and leaving a comment.

Looks like a tintype or something. Looks like a wicked storm.

Thanks Bret! I know -- I've done the White Rim in March and it was a bit frosty. I've had good luck in April though....

A great place to be during a storm, as long as the road doesn't get too nasty.
I'm surprised you haven't spent more time on the White Rim already!
If you didn't hike out to the ruins at Fort Bottom, I highly recommend it as a great location to explore. Usually you can count on it for a good sunset location.
Bill: I'm surprised I haven't spent more time out there, too. You can bet I'll make at least a couple trips each year going forward. I found at least 2 dozen spots that I'm dying to return and photograph. Lots of great "canyons & cottonwoods" that will be outstanding in autumn. Didn't make it to Fort Bottom but I'd like to. Next time...
