Great colors, Craig, although the frame color would likely not be my choice.
One of the things you are probably noticing with the macro lens and its dof is how crucial it is to choose what part of the flower to have in clear focus and how much of the frame to devote to what is not full focused.
Are you focusing manually? If not, give that a try using live view at x5 or x10.

Very nice photo Craig. I like the composition. The unopened flowers create a nice balance in the frame. The border color isn't my favorite either.

I would like the green bud to be not merged with the open bud, i think giving it some space would enhance the shot.

Craig, well done the colors are great and the dof is perfect.I agree with what cliff said about the green bud and I dont care for the unopened bud directly behind the flower. These are very small nits in a great image.
I like this, Craig, particularly the composition in the way the flower is placed in the frame. It is unusual and eye-catching. I don't mind either bud right where they are though I do wish that the opening flower had either sharper focus or a little more light on it as its position seems to me to make it want to be part of the subject. Nice work starting out with macro; it's so much fun, and it looks like you're enjoying it.
