Question for you Colorado Plateau folks- Looking at going to Zion NP for fall color in Zion Canyon. I know that the high country color would be in October and that the general timeframe for Zion Canyon is "early November". I have one week to allow for my trip and can be there either Nov 1-5 or Nov 8-12.
When I was there for Columbus Day several years ago there was zero fall color in the canyon. So I know early November is the time.
I saw an article here that said second week and posted over on the large format page where I got a reply of first week.
So as sort of a tie breaker, I thought I'd post here
For the best chance for the color in the canyon would you go Nov 1-5 or 8-12?
Thanks!!

Based on my recent experience in Zion, I'd bet on Nov 1-5.
You are just cruel, Todd. Thanks for posting this, Darren. I have never been there, so the info will move me to try to plan.

Based on last year:
East Side Zion (Clear Creek Area--maples and ash): 2nd to 3rd week in Oct
Subway: 3rd and 4th week in Oct
Zion Canyon: 4th week Oct, 1st week Nov (Cottonwoods in the main canyon turn yellow around Halloween--maples and ash turn a little before in the Emerald Pools and Sinawava areas)
Some years are a little later than this depending upon precipitation and temperatures. Usually, the week before and the week after Halloween you can't miss. Good luck.
Actually as I think about it the later date may be better for the Canyon while the earlier date may be better for the higher areas on the east side before you go through the tunnel. I been there twice the first week of Nov and once the second week . When I went the second week the higher areas were pretty much done for color, but the canyon had good color.
