Hi all,
Another Wheatear from yesterday. This one was very fond of this sluice gate on the bank of the Severn estuary. I took a variety of shots with the bird looking in different directions, I think this is my favourite, even though the bird is looking out of frame. The ones where the bird was facing the perch really didn't look quite right. I'd be interested to hear views on this comp.
And no I haven't chained him to the perch!
Thanks for looking,
Lewis.

No.You've cut out and pasted him to it again!
Looking out of the picture doesn't bother me because there's so much interest in that rusty old perch and that holds your interest within the image IMO.
Really like it,Lewis.
I think this is great. I like the composition with the bird looking out of frame and , if anything, I would like to see a bit more of the sluice control.

The composition works for me as well. I think Phil has hit on the reason, that rusty old sluice control is interesting in its own right, and the bird is a great contrast to it. Very nice shot.
An interesting and different perch which works well for me

A great shot but I find the size and sharpness of the sluice control overpowers the bird itself. It is still better than any of my Wheatear shots

An excellent juxtaposition of the natural and man-made. A fine image.

Hi Lewis, this is certainly different.

Very different and for that reason a lone I like it. Another reason is that the exposure and comp is spot on for me. I might tone down or remove the white 'blob' above the bolt in the centre as it pulls the eye. Otherwise nice work indeed.
