The past week had it all in the Fauna Gallery; intriguing portraits, action shots, cute subjects, creative use of Wide Angle, excellent B&W conversions, funny images, scary images and as usual a very wide variety of subjects from Horned Lizards to Hanuman Langurs. This large variety does not at all make it easy to single out one image that stands out, hence here first a list of honorable mentions :
- Jagdeep Rajput has been digging in his old slide files and proved that he has some gold in there! His image Sambar Stag is a gorgeous portrait and a perfect example that we do not always need front lighting to make beautiful images. On the contrary back and side lighting can often result in much more creative and unique photos.
- I know opinions are divided about the use of WA for wildlife photography and an argument against it is often the distorting created by these lenses with close-ups. Personally I really like close-up WA images of wildlife when it is skillfully done and I also know this is not easy to achieve. Alessandra & Rocca have shown a few times before already that they possess the skill to make such images and The last snow! is another great example.
- An image that rightfully drew a lot of attention was Jess Lee's Katmai Coast Bears, a very endearing image of a Grizzly sow and cub. The super low shooting angle puts this image over the top.

This week's Pick is an image that drew maybe less attention than some others, but it is the one that struck me most, is one by István Pénzes titled: Entry. This image features a red deer stag framed with an arch of backlit orange leaves against a dark forest BG. Clearly another great example of good use of a creative lighting situation. And after all that is what photography is largely about; capturing the light!

Apart from all these exciting images there was also exciting NPN news, namely the introduction of Lon Sharp as a third moderator of the Gallery! For more about that check here and here.

Congrats to all!!!

I missed these breakdowns which I know are time consuming and they're greatly appreciated.
