Right off the bat let me say that this is NOT one of those tricks where you stare at a picture for an extended period of time, then a screaming monster appears onscreen and scares the living sh*t out of you. (Sure sounds like something I'd do, but not this time!) It's just a cool optical illusion that you can do yourself with any of your own photos. If anyone wants to know how to do it, shoot me an e-mail and I'll send you the info I used. OPTICAL ILLUSION

Nice, that's pretty cool.

Amazing! I thought it might turn back to color if I looked back at the dot but once the color was gone it was gone for good. That was some crazy sh*t!

I stared at the dot for 30 minutes and now ... Well, I won't spoil the fun. Give it a try.
Very cool, Todd.

very cool todd. i have never seen this illusion used in that sense.
i learned about this in a sensation and perception class in college. if i remember correctly there is something similar to an auto white balance mechanism in the brain/eye. when you view an image like this for a long period of time and then look away the rods/cones get exhausted and try to correct themselves. i think...

That is the sickest illusion ive ever seen! Now--why does it work????
i notice it still works (though much less and faster transition) if you dont look at the black dot, so obviously the colors are training the rods/cones in some way. Neat!
