I've been thinking of getting an all round lens for my D80 and am concidering the Tamron 18-270. Does anyone have any thoughts on this lens, or have used it? I've read reports of lens creep. All suggestions appreciated

Hi Bob,
I use the Tamron 18-270 on a Pentax K10D and I really like it. It's the reason that I went back to an SLR. I don't have interest in carrying a back pack full of lenses. I recommend it,
because it is great for me, an avid amatuer.

Hey Bob,
I'm a semi-pro and I have the lens and use it on my canon 40D, though my main camera is now the full frame 5DII, which it won't work on. It's a good lens, but not a pro lens. When I go out for a serious shoot, it will not be my choice. However, it is an excellent travel lens when you want to go light and will produce good quality images. For backpacking, I take the 40D, the Tamron, and a Sigma 10-20 and that covers my needs for a fairly lightweight kit. It's a perfect lens for family "snaps" or if I want to bring my camera on a trip that is not primarily about photography. The IS is excellent. It is slightly soft at the 270mm end.
Hey Bob, I use this lens on my 50D. I have some good Canon glass, but when I travel I don't want the weight of all the lenses to carry. I find it to be very handy for any shots I want on a trip. If I was going to a "Destination Shoot" I would take my other lenses. That said, we just went on a ten day trip through the deep south and it was the only lens I took. The results are good enough for some Note Cards to place in the boutique shop that sells them for me. I like it and feel very comfortable with the final resolution. Lens creep is a problem if you don't use the "Lens Lock". I use it all the time and thus, don't have a problem.
