Following my Dipper post taken in the Elan valley here is one of the Kite images from Gigrin. My first visit to Gigrin and I spent three afternoons in appalling light and rain showers (also camping in one of Chris's fields) took a while to get used to the mayhem that is kite feeding and gradually started to pick individuals off from the mass. Difficult lighting conditions meant that there was a huge difference between the kites flying above the horizon and those swooping to pick up food so my fingers were going crazy tweeking exposure. Have to admit I have a lot of binned images but some which have come out ok. I might now be adicted as the sheer numbers and acrobatics were mesmerising.
No sign of the black kite, but the Leucistic (white) Kite came in for about 20 mins one of the days.
Nikon D300 + 200-400
iso 400
f4 1/1000 sec and +1.0 compensation
Used the new Big Tower Hide which was great for getting that extra bit of height.
Well captured Ben. Good lighting seems to be the key to Gigrin. Unfortunately when we went a few weeks ago it was overcast. Hoping to go back again when the weather improves - which hopefully it will do soon.
