Coyote or Wolf?
This image is from Thursday this week in Yellowstone. The coloring seems very similar to an image of a wolf from the Canyon pack but I'm not sure if it's a wolf or not. Canon 1D Mk II N + EF 400mm f/5.6L.

I'm not an expert but my first thought was "Coyote" based on the size of the head in relation to the body. The wolves I've seen both in the wild and in photographs appear to me to have heads that are larger in relation to their body. Also the ears of this guy look a bit long for it's face. Ultimately I guess the overall size of the critter would be my determining factor. The biggest coyote I've ever seen would probably be a bit smaller than a small to mid sized wolf. That's my non-scientific opinion.

Coyotee. I've seen a lot more of these this winter in Yellowstone.

I haven't seen a lot of them there but it's been my expereince that the song dogs in Yellowstone are larger and fuller bodied then anywhere else I've seen them. I don't know if it's because they are a sub-species or if they are just better fed.
