I'm making the switch from jpeg to raw. I've got my D5000 set to Raw+Jpeg/fine/large file. When I try to download the files to PSE7 I get this:
"Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog". That's the main body of the error message.
In the drop-down menu listing the files I get this:
"The file is damaged, or is a format that cannot be included in the organizer". I could not find a way to download directly into the editor, but I don't know if that would have mattered anyway. According to my fairly thorough Adobe PSE7 manual by Philip Andrews PSE7 contains a Raw converter, but several attempts produced the same "no dice" results. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.
Okay I figured it out. I though about deleting the post, but maybe some other neophyte such as myself might have the same question at some point. Here's the deal, I went to Adobe and downloaded the Raw 5.6 plug-in for my version of pse and that solved it.

Yep, I run into this problem all the time with students who have new cameras and who have not run all the updates yet. Typically, once you download all the updates you can render the images.

I ran into the same issue when I tried to upload images from my new D300s into Photoshop CS4 for the first time. I downloaded the new Codec from Nikon and it worked great so you are not the only one who has scratched his head over this !
When you attempt to open Nikon RAW files (NEFs) in PSE7, CameraRAW 4.5 should open. If you have a registered copy of PSE7, you should also be able to download CameraRAW 5.5 from the Adobe download site. Unfortunately it has been so long since I have done this I can;t remember the specifics.

Good luck with it,
