We are now offering a Canon RS-80N3 compatible remote switch in the NPN Gift Shoppe. Made by Nova in China, the remote switch features a longer 3-meter cord, and great quality and function at a fraction of the cost.
Before offering this item in the Gift Shoppe, I spent a few months with a sample provided by Nova. I was very impressed with the quality of construction and the flawless function with my Canon 10D. Condsidering the quality, functionality and great price, we thought this would be a great item to offer!
The Canon unit sells for about $50 at the big discount houses - we are offering the Nova model for $29.95.
Any chance of a longer remote for Nikon from the same source? Not nature photography, but we used them extensively (as well as radio remotes for MF) on pre-digital Nikons. My wife finds the short releases extremely confining, as she has learned that she gets better "performances" from her subjects when she can move away from the camera.

Hank, I can look into it. The catch is I have to buy a substantial quantity of any one item. I do have a sample of a long (16-foot) model of the Canon version, which looks like it could come in handy.
Thanks for checking Jim. A pretty sure sign tho, that Canon is doing a better job than Nikon in selling gear!
Regardelss of brand, I can speak up on behalf of the long releases for nature shooter, especially macro and outdoor portrait photographers. The long release lets you move anywhere you want to apply reflectors, strobes or shades. You can't imagine how useful a long release can be till you have used one! And by the same token, you can't imagine how dependent you have become till you forget and leave it home.
Hank, I now carry the 16-footer (5-meter) in my bag that Nova sent as a sample and it's awesome for just what you say. If we get enough of a demand, I can bring the long versions in too.

I'd like to have a longer version as well... So you can put me on the demand-list
