The recent Baja Earthquake did quite a bit a bit of damage to some of the some of the canyons in Anza Borrego State Park. The epicenter was close to 50 miles away.

Whoa!

You always see these huge tumbled blocks and wonder - was it weather, geologic processes, time..?

Pretty cool to see it firsthand shortly after it happened.

From the pictures, it looks like those folks were fortunate to have not become victims. Yikes! I'd give those canyons a wide berth for a while.

I know that area well. Originally, I was planning on heading out there that day, but decided to change my plans. Who knows what would have happened?

Geologic time is not always measured in millenia, sometimes it's seconds. Thanks for sharing Steve.

I love the photo of the moderator, horse puller. What a classic look.

Steve, seeing the large fallen debris and rocks in the dirt road beds brought to mind the VW-Bug sized boulder that landed on Tioga pass as I drove through there one day. It then dawned on me big time how all those divots got into the pavement on that road. Check it out sometime.

Maybe I should rethink my campsite selection in the future. This was from last weekend in the southern section of Anza Borrego.
