The following weekend 3/20/2010 I had returned to the same Coast Range area noted on the poppies and gilia thread previously posted. And within a small arroyo that is on obscure state lands, found a beautiful area of fresh green grasses, poppies, lupine, and cryptantha. Skies were full of hazy clouds so my meter readings were about half an EV lower than usual direct sunlight including when I exposed this image about 10am when the sun nicely illuminated not only the flowers but the beautiful greens of the grasses and flowers leaves and stems. I particularly like poppies against freshly risen green grasses. This particular patch was special because the poppies were evenly spread not too densely so individual flowers nicely stood out against the greenery and there were subtle patterns and variations in poppy height that gave the frame a nice 3-D look and visual movement. A good view camera subject of an reasonbly even focus plain for tilt. I stopped down way for my Provia 100F film at f48 to get good depth of field at about EV14.3 at 1/8 second.

Glowing, what a show nature is putting on this spring in California. I appreciate the backstory on the image even though I don't shoot format understanding the process is cool. Impressive image David fine flower study.

Beautiful, David. I'm heading out this morning for the southern
environs. I hope that I'm as fortunate as you've been.
