This week I really wished I could pick multiple images as Pick of the Week! Getting down to my favourite top four images wasn't too tough and on any given week each of these images could have easily won "Pick of the Week" distinction. Here's the four short-listed images:
1. Gary Marquart's "The Fox". We've had a series of amazing fox images in the Fauna Gallery over the past several months, and this endearing shot ranks among the best. Gary beautifully isolated the fox from its surroundings and captured an absolutely compelling stare by the fox. Well done, Gary - I don't know anyone who wouldn't want this image in their portfolio!
2. Ajit Huilgol's "A Bleak Future?". Ajit never disappoints with his images and this emotive shot of a contemplative tiger at rest is another fine example of his craft. And, he managed to effectively weave the feelings conveyed by the image into a poignant environmental statement. Good job Ajit - let's hope images like this one make a difference for the tigers!
3. Darren Colello's "Surveying the Terrain". Beautiful light, excellent composition, and subject rarity are all combined in this wonderful shot of a Caracal (a seldom photographed African cat). This one has to be seen to be appreciated - check it out!
4. Marco Poggioni's "A Bear and Her Cub". Marco managed to captured an amazingly intimate interaction between a female Alaskan Brown Bear and her tiny cub in this shot. And, he did it with a gorgeous backdrop! Well done Marco!
For me the Pick of the Week came down to choosing between the Ajit's and Darren's cat images. Either choice could be easily justified, but ultimately I chose Darren's gorgeous Caracal. Why? I rate all four of this week's short list virtually equally on technical and creative terms. But, when you add in the extreme difficulty of ever finding (let along photographing) a Caracal, I feel the balance must tip in Darren's favour! Congratulations!
Of course, this is just a few of the great images posted in the last week - my apologies to those I've overlooked. Thanks to all who posted images and/or comments in the last week...

I'd like to say how nice it is to read the thoughts behind the selection process. This is really a great way to honor all the quality images in a gallery and add perspective to the difficult decision process.
Thanks, Brad, for going the extra distance to share this with all of us.
