All the better for the twigs and pine cones which really add to the image, lovely and sharp too :toast:

One of the best WP shots I thnk I have seen. I really like the setting of this image and the amount of detail throughout. A touch more space at the bottom but that is very minor. Simply super.

The conifer in the background really adds to an excellent shot with great detail :toast:

Excellent capture. The gnarled trunk and hanging branches really add to the image.

Hi Phil, well I am going to be in the minority here

The WP is spot on, excellent colour detail, sharpness and those feet!!! The tree and the slight curvature is a really nice touch, quite often you see an almost vertical 'prop[, not that trees don't grow vertical, but you know what I mean, however. It's the BG for me, I just find it too distracting and a cleaner BG for me would work much better. Obviously this is a personal comment/observation.

Hi Phil,

I like this! Are the larch branches set up or is this how they occur? If they are set up it might be worth seeing what the image is like with them slightly further away so they are more out of focus (but still well defined). I quite like them as a back stop though rather than just a smooth bg. As Steve says, its all personal preferences.

Cheers,

Lewis.

Lewis, the hanging larch branches were set up,actually to try something different to what I would normally do.I fixed a piece of wood to the top of the main trunk,at right angles to it.Then I cut a few larch branches and tied them to the cross piece and tried to make them hang as natural as possible.

If it were just a normal smooth background it would be a good shot but pretty standard stuff. So for me the larch branches do make it different. But given that this is a set-up I'd definitely play with the distance as Lewis says as it may be just a little further away might look even stronger. But I like it as it is.

That's a beauty Phil. Personally I like the larch branches as they have made a 'different' shot from the usual. Nice one.

One of the nicest GSW shots I have seen. Really well exposed and I love the larch branches. Makes a pleasant change from the "perfect" plain background. I find plain backgrounds, although they set the subject off well can become rather boring after a while. BTW of all the GSW shots I have ever taken I have still to get a female

I like this as it is too. You've thought about, planned and created something different from the norm which is to be applauded :toast: Not all will like it of course.

Cheers,
