The Osprey and the Crab
Photographed this Male (an educated guess) Osprey flying back to the nest and his mate w/Spider crab legs (body was gone). I had noticed it harassing some of the gulls nearby and when it flew further away, it was staying along the shoreline. I lost sight of it, but when it came back this is what was in its talons.

To add to this mystery, there was a 1/2 eaten flounder (should have taken a photo but didn't) on a nearby felled tree which the Osprey obviously had eaten. So, why leave 1/2 a perfectly good fish to rot? Then go get crab legs from a gull? Conditions were phenomenal, 10mph winds from the south, 75* and perfect visibility so hunting should have been easy.

Cool shot Luke, I guess it was a seafood buffet night, I'd personally rather eat crab legs than flounder anyday!

I'm with Nate, Luke--I'll take the crab legs! Plus it's probably a good idea to sometimes remind the gulls who's boss. cool shot, and interesting behavioral sequence.

Probably adding good variety to its diet. I also agree that it naturally doesn't like gulls. Great behavior.

They bring back all kinds of stuff to the nest, string, sticks, plastic, half eaten fish etc etc.

great shot - I'll also take the crab legs over the flounder, unless it is flounder florentine with a little seaweed..
