Great Blue
Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge on Sat. Going to have to spend more time watching the light and waiting for things to happen. Needed to wait for a cloud to get rid of the shadow.

Needed to follow the bird around for an hour till it catches a fish! I would also agree the shadow is distracting.

Saturday was a bit bright. Today might have been better. Anyway, great detail and a nice pose.

Jerry,
I do agree the shadow is a little distracting. This is a nice closeup of a bird that doesn't like it's picture taken. I was golfing on Saturday at Heron Lakes golf course when I hit my ball towards the water. When I was searching for it, I looked up and I was staring a Heron right in the eyes from about five feet. I really wished I had my camera in my hand. I have never in my over twenty years of playing that course been that close to one of these birds. I felt the wind from it's wings when it took off.

Nice bird. Did you go 300mm or more on it?

thanks to all for the comments.I am trying to get familiar with everyones style and specialties. My interests seem so scattered,as you will see as I post more. Please lay it on me. Ned, this was shot with 70-300 at 220mm, or 330 (35mm) with NikonD200. ISO400 F/13 1/640sec :wavey:

Nice capture of a GBH. I'm not soo keen on the harsh light as others have mentioned. Hang around a bunch more around this guy and try to capture some cool behavior shots. I once watched a GBH swallow a whole rat it caught, alas I was without my trusty Canon to get an image of it... But that's the kind of behavior shot that will give ya a really impressive keeper of an image.
