I'm off to Namibia very soon for a three week trip. It's a shoe string type adventure with only a 4x4 and a tent, which raises the obvious question of how would one go about charging camera batteries? (my girlfriend doesn't agree that is the most obvious question; her most obvious question had something to do with washing hair, but that can be ignored in this particular forum)
Is anyone familiar with Namibian rest camps, and know if power outlets are commonly available? Or should I invest in a car charger?
Any advice welcome, plus any tidbits about photography in Namibia.
Cheers,
Tim

I would look into solar charges that can be unfolded - I know some of the Alaska guys and some of the ESS guys use and love them

I often spend weeks (or even a year at one point) living in my car and have to say that a good quality Inverter is probably my most single useful tool for these trips. I can't speak to Namibia at all but a good conversion from 12 V to whatever your standard voltage is makes life easy. Take a power strip and then you can plug things in while you drive from place to place.
Remember, if you go that route, don't let it drain your battery over night. Never done it with an inverter but done it with other things (dome light, etc).
I'm one of the Alaska guys Luke mentioned, and I am a big fan of solar chargers. Here's a link to my review of the Brunton 26 watt solar panel. I understand the sun in very reliable in Nambibia. If you have questions, let me know.

Enjoy the trip. I'm jealous!
