I went out on Hwy 166 through Maricopa on another wildflower hunt on Saturday. To the west of Maricopa there was a road named Elkhorn summit grade. It quickly turned to dirt but I doggedly kept going hoping as the altitude increased there would be some color. I believe that I ended up in a long valley in the Elk Hills. BLM land and no fences. I went on the road with no expectations just hoping to be surprised. I certainly was. Nikon D300 -1 Iso and -1 stop exposure.
In regards to you inquiry, I was using the healing tool in elements the original image had some issue in the middle ground right side and the size was pretty big and I panned it across the issue and it kinda made the detail blur a little. Then the horizon was a little off so I used the straighten tool and when I compensated ( enlarged the image ) for the correction I end up cropping out the fg. Since the image is cropped and these flowers were so tiny ( little sunflowers ) the size of a chickpea the mg ended up being the fg. So the effect was done in post processing and was kind of an accident. The second image gives a better view of the flowers close up and was a little further down the road. The was some fiddlenecks mixed in here and the yellow flowers were a little plusher here.

Whatever technique that you used, I like the results.
