Spring Rite
The ranchers were burning their pastures off in a frenzy today (the last several days have been windy; today was fairly calm). My hubby graciously took me out on a 60 mile drive through the Flint Hills in Wabaunsee Co. west of Alma (one of his favorite mountain bike routes). We ate a quick picnic supper sitting on a bridge at a low water crossing (photo may follow later) and listened to the sound of the soothing stream gurgling by. Then we caught this pasture fire in progress while listening to a turkey gobbling & coyotes yipping. It was pretty cool! The haze allowed me to include the sun. Unfortunately, we didn't see any big burn areas or get close enough for good shots, but saw plenty of small burns far off. I LOVE that smell of burning grass - means spring is finally here.

nice image. I am a little jealous. I have some old memories of turkeys and coyotes that I haven't heard or seen in a while.

Yes, Angela, they were burning and have been for a while.

The sunsets have bee red for a week now and the smell of prairie grass buring wafts through the evening air.

Stop by my veterinary clinic sometime. Brad Mangas stops by and we catch up on photos stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

Interesting seeing the lush greens in front of the barren desolate landscape in the background.

Very nicely done Angela! I agree with you on the smell of the smoke in the spring, I love it!

I was out southeast of Alma Sunday evening and also just saw some small fires.
