I went out yesterday with my oldest daughter on a daddy-daughter adventure to Falling Water Creek. I've been there many times but this was my daughter's first time. I knew the bright blue skies would not make for great waterfall photography but I have an 8x ND filter and put it good use. Photography wasn't the goal of the trip - just spending a great afternoon with my daughter was. But I wanted to get a photo of my daughter at each waterfall we visited - Falling Water, Six Finger, and Fuzzy Butt.
To be honest, with the exception of the contrast issues, which can be compensated for in post if you shoot RAW, I really like waterfalls with blue skies in the background. What do you think?

all that matters is spending the day with your daughter :) harsh light is hard for me to look at or enjoy, but who really cares? glad you had a great day :)
