Chocolate Grand
I had been out to Grand Falls three weeks ago, but did not like the look of the falling water frozen in space without the use of a ND filter. So I took a Sunday drive towards Leupp with hopes of more pleasing images. The LCR is still about 1400 cfs.

The cycling swirl of flotsam and basketballs was in the lower right, but was cropped it out, which seemed to help the eyes follow the flow from TR to BL

The 3-stop ND was not quite enough to smooth the flow during bright sunlight, but this image was still better than one with the rainbow from 3 weeks ago.
ISO 100, f/18, 1/5 sec.

Despite the frozen water action I really enjoy the second one. Beautiful!

I'm another fan of #2, partially for the fast shutter speed and tight composition, but also because of those rocks, which work real well here. Did you get a slower shutter speed with that comp.?

John,
Unfortunately I was not able to get a slower speed while the sun was out for the rainbow. I had ISO as low as I could go, and the ND and CPL screwed on. I stayed with f/18 as I did not want to encounter diffraction problems with a much smaller aperature.

No worries...I like it just as is!

Great shots! Like the red in the water and the rocks.

A neighbor, who is a large format photographer, has not been to Grand Falls, so we made a quick trip yesterday afternoon in hopes that the 2000 cfs and clear skies would provide some nice sunset light on the falls. There was a lot more mist with the higher flow and some nice rainbows.
This image is of the far upper left portion of the falls.
