When I was at ridgefield last weekend, my elan 7N stopped working I guess because of the low temperature. Screwed up batteries. I missed shooting a great blue eating a frog. That was the first time I saw a 'hunt' :), however was horribly pissed at my camera which started working after the 'hunt' was over :(. Has anyone experienced such issues with the Elan 7N or the lithium battery. I was up at St.Helens yesterday and had the same issue. At temperatures below 44 F the camera stops working. It turns on but does not meter.

I did have a similar problem with my Elan2, but i don't know if it had the same battery. I always carried a warm extra battery in a warm pocket. :jump:

Seems to me that there must be something else wrong with your camera, 44 isn't really that cold.

I used an Elan 7E at temps well below 44 degrees. I could understand if it was below freezing for extended periods, but 44 seems a little warm for problems to be cropping up. I'm not sure where you should go from here through, perhaps have a repair place take a look at its overall functions, make sure everything is functioning within specs, and get a clean/lube?

Jerry, Mark, Ryan thanks. I will possibly take it to a canon service centre and get an overall check.
John, I was operating mostly in Av mode.Yes the AF stopped but even in manual (M) mode, the film would not advance. Also the MF indicator would keep blinking. I was using the 400 mm f/5.6 lens but then changed to a 50 mm just to test, even on the 50 mm it would stop AFing intermittently.
Seems like the camera has an issue as the usage is quite rugged. I may have to upgrade to the 1 series :).

Pradeep at 44 degrees it sure wasn't the cold weather that was the root cause of what was happening to your camera.

Me thinks a 1D Series is in yer NEAR future!!
