I love that the NPS is doing this. They did something similar last year, too. I hope it brings lots of people to the parks who may not otherwise have visited, and possibly even inspires them to explore other parks, monuments and wild areas.

You can get free access into the National Parks all the time if you want to by going in before they open. I seem to still buy a pass every year just to support them, but it is actually legitimate to go in befire the ranger station opens without paying. Wasn't aware of that until a Ranger confirmed it for me. I don't know if all NP are that way, but RMNP didn't even want my money when I offered it once to them later in the day.
