Right off highway 395
• Here are some *snapshots (dust spots and all) from midday as I passed the area on Monday.
I figure someone might be headed up that way and could use the info.
After you pass Independence heading north turn left on Black Rock Springs rd until you get to old 395. You can see it all there. The fiddlenecks are abundant along 395 and should be beginning to bloom very soon if not yet. Should be a great sunrise spot.

Thanks, Steve. I'm heading up next weekend and will check this out.

Steve the spot your describing on old 395 is only a few miles south of Aberdeen. When I was there at the end of march the fields were alive with yellow. There's also allot of color up behind the Fish hatchery on North Oak Creek Road.

Checked out your shots The cinder cone in 2 is Red Mtn and you either used telephoto or were North of Aberdeen near Taboose Creek. The 3rd is South of Aberdeen near Division Creek. Nice to see the color is holding after several weeks.
Cool, thanks Steve. I've seen some flowers in that area before but never like that. Did you notice if the lupine up division creek have started to bloom?

Jason, I don't know where division creek is? I'll have to look it up. Thanks for the info.
Paul, All was done at the intersection of Old 395 and Black Rock Springs rd with a 70-200.
I've felt like there was a rush to go out and shoot wildflowers but there has been so many constantly I just need to relax and go out and shoot when I can.. . I guess it's because I'd rather shoot then edit.
It's just north of back rock springs rd. If you take old 395 you make a left and head up toward the sierra for a few miles. In a good year you can see the lupine from 395 if you know where to look.

That's Sawmill Creek/Canyon area which is really a neat place. drove by a couple weeks ago and it was looking real nice, better than last year for sure. Div Crk is just north of Sawmill Canyon. The lupines should be going off right now at Div Crk, but haven't been up there. They should be good. Here's a pic I took last year

Folks,
Couple of other things, one reason the landscape is devoid of brush is the Inyo Comlpex fire which burned through this area two summers ago, that what's responsible for the never ending carpet of flowers with no obscuring sage or other low shrubbery. A few more seasons after the brush grows back this vista will disappear. Also old 395 if you turn left from Black Rock Springs Road will go through, ignore the sign, when they they worked on adding the two northbound lanes they added a little to the old Hwy so the old and new are rejoined. There was some great coverage about halfway back to the new Hwy. There was quite a bit of Lupine starting to bloom in that area but closer to the base of the Mts., even up the dirt road just to the right of BRS rd. Rudy Ruberti found me there a couple of weekends ago, it was nice to meet a fellow Canp member out in the field, he was returning from Mammoth and took a little side jaunt down the old Hwy.
Thanks for the heads up Steve. I might be heading up to Little Lakes Valley this weekend and will have to keep an eye out for such flower possibilities along the way.
I was in the area over the weekend and checked this spot out. In addition to the flowers up the hill, there is a small stream near the intersection of old 395 and blackrock where some lupine are blooming. I posted an image from here on ESS -- thanks for the tips all!
