Pigeon
So, I'm in Newfoundland. Yesterday, it was just cold and windy (today there is a couple inches of snow on the ground and a very, very wet, cold marine wind blowing that chills to the bone), but I got out to a local pond to photograph some birds. This is an urban pond, so besides some ducks (mostly northern pintail, mallards and black ducks)there were a lot of pigeons.

I wish I had a little more depth of field on this to get his feet in better focus, but the colors of these guys are just amazing.

I processed this on an uncalibrated laptop, so the color/lights/darks may be a bit off, but I felt like sharing something.

I am hoping the wind dies down tomorrow and I can get out for some photographs with some snow and ocean cliffs/fog, etc. Or maybe some more birds. The roads are really bad right now though, so who knows.

Cheers!

P.S. I pre-ordered CS5...I wish they'd just release the dang thing after they announce it.

The colors are cool.. I can only imagine how cool an extreme close-up of those feathers would be, however, probably impossible to get close enough to do...

Sounds like a great trip Ryan! I agree, the colors on the nape are special. I tend to overlook these common birds, but there is some real beauty there.

I agree John, sometimes we forget to really look as some of these common birds, there were several different colored pigeons there, and it was pretty cool.

We got hit with an honest-to-God blizzard last night which dumped a good foot of snow on us and winds around 40 mph. Today was rain and the same hard wind. Not the best environmental situation for photography right now, but we've been having fun visiting friends.

Rain or not, I'll be getting out for some coastal drives and hopefully some photography. It's unlikely we'll see the sun while were here.

We'll probably be back here in June or July and that should be a lot more productive in all aspects of photography.

Sounds wild! I've never been anywhere near there, so I do hope to see some photos in the future.

Thanks for the news of your trip and the great photo of the pigeon. I confess I never imagine the common pigeons to be photo ops. I stand corrected! Wild weather, but I hope you get some good opportunities for images nevertheless.
