Male Stonechat
Stonechat (Saxicola torquata) – Essex.

Canon EOS 7D, 600/f4 + WH2 and Gitzo 3530SLV.
Manual exposure mode f10 ;1/800, iso 400.
RAW image processed in Capture One; sharpened in Photoshop CS4; full frame.

Some thoughts about the 7D if anyone is interested.

Good things include the automatic focus point switching when you rotate the camera from landscape to portrait orientation; the Live View/Movie shooting switch (no trawling through C Fn menus), the very bright view finder and the layout of the focusing points.

Things that are not so good include the ease with which the mode dial on the top plate turns accidentally and in so doing changes the exposure mode; the files are noisy although the noise is fine-grained due to the small pixel size, and the various buttons are a bit too small and close together for efficient operation in low temperatures.

Hi Phil supurb image, I dont have any nits at all.
Do you find you get many keepers though from the 7D ?? compared to other bodies you may have owned. I seem to find that I have had quite a few focus issues. with images that should have easly been nailed out of focus.

Cheers

The detail and colours in that are superb. And great getting it with some food in its beak too.

Superb portrait of this lovely bird,
perch and BG top.
I am happy with my 7D, did you compare Capture One with DPP?

A fine image Phil, bet you were well pleased with this, top BG too.

My 7D misses more than it hits and suffers from very poor focusing when in servo mode, on a static subject in one shot mode it's the dogs danglers and captures some great detail.

What a wonderful shot!
I also have mixed feelings about the 7D, with most of the problems as already stated.

Quite excellent, would just have preferred a more upright pose. :wavey: :wavey:

A real belter. Composition-wise it's a slight shame that the gorse doesn't emerge from closer to the bottom right hand corner, but you can't have everything!
