One great pleasure I get from photographing birds is its ability to freeze the moment, I see barn owls dive perhaps twenty times in an evening but only when I get home and view the shots on the screen can I see the amazing abilities they have .

50D-600mm-ISO 250-1/500-f6.3-tripod.

Brilliant capture Bob! Did the barnie connect? I'm not entirely sure about the crop. Perhpas if it was a bit more elongated top to bottom it would give more of a sense of diving - not sure.

Top flight shot Bob, I like the stare of the bird.
A bit noisy for ISO 250 ?

I know the 50D has a reputation for grain  I take it that this is a large crop, I like the image but feel it needs some extra processing to remove the grain

You've caught some great action there Bob, but the processing isn't helping. Some judicious NR and a little less sharpening would improve it further I would have thought?

Yes Dave , a large crop, whats left is about 30% of a full frame .I've run it through again with Noiseware.
