I made the mistake of trying to save money on printer ink. "BIG MISTAKE"
First of all the printer had trouble recognizing the cartridges and when it finally did my printer head clogged. I had to purchase a new printer head and new canon ink to solve the problem. I am am now out $300 to save $50. The bad cartridges were purchased on Ebay and marketed buy G&G ECO-SAVER.
I hope this helps someone avoid the problem I just endured.

I think it is hit and miss with third party cartridges. I had an epson get clogged many years ago from cheap ones, and then just a couple years ago, I had very good luck with a bulk ink system I got on ebay, which yielded me about 300 4x6's and a few dozen 8x10 prints for $45, and in fact, it still had ink, but I didn't use it for a while and it clogged itself.

Mike... I was wondering why your hands and fingers were stained all sorts of colors this afternoon!

I haven't been seriously tempted so far-- but thanks for the reminder why. Sorry to hear of your troubles.
I've been using media ink to refill cartridges for years. Recently, the company began supplying a new style of empty cartridge - long story short, I've given up on their cartridges, but not their ink. I have some canon cartridges in which I drilled holes and plug with glue gun which have been working for years. I found the problems I had with clogging etc was not the ink, but the cartridges. since empties are $8 each, makes more sense to buy canon ink cartridges when old ones wear out and just refill them. cost of a refill is about .75 ea. I have a canon i9900. Anyone have experience with other bulk inks?
I use nothing but original Epson carts in my R1800 and still have serious clogs ever few months. I try to make at least one print per week (following advice found online). But sometimes that doesn't even help. I've spent/wasted a ton of ink cleaning clogged heads. BTW, I use Qimage to print my images and love the software. It may not be the easiest to use s/w, but their active forums and approachable author are invaluable.
