Female Grass Snake

I found this big female Grass snake at a Nature reserve near Birmingham. Whilst I had my 5DII on hand with the macro poised, I decided to have a go at capturing her with the new compact field camera I'm currently using to photograph Great crested newt belly patterns! The camera is a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2. A simple point-and-shoot but since I work around ponds all the time, the fact that it is waterproof, shock proof and dust proof it seemed like a great tool to have..

Anyway, I also liked the DOF it offered in this situation..

Hope all are well..

Fantastic Brett,
This is just the sort of shot that I love to see - good detailed image with some habitat context as well. Just goes to show what compacts are capable of too.

Very effective Brett. I really like seeing the scene - the DOF is great in this shot and the snake is bang on. Nicely done.

Brilliant. Wildly under-rated compacts, but you still have to see the shot before you press the shutter. Top notch photography.

I can see us all rushing out to buy this camera lol. It has produced a super image and the dof is spot on to include some environment too. Very very nice.
