I came across this post on dpreview of what I can only describe as the most incredible lightning shot I may have ever seen and thought I would share this link with you all...from the Volcano...this guy was maybe a tad to close from looking at it http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=35090881 Just blows my mind!

I saw that post yesterday and was blown away. It's the best eruption shot that I have ever seen.

Apparently he had press credentials, and agrees he was too close when it went "crazy":
"A bit too close to be honest. I drove about 1 hour passed the police block. I wanted to get as close as possible without getting a heart attack. Goal was a 17-20mm wide angle sunset shot of a mirror in the river which turned out great. But then it just went absolutely crazy. I was not sure if I should escape or continue shooting, but I realized I was probably far too close to get away anyway. However the 2-3km lava that shot up landed on the back side of the volcano. I believe I must have been about 4-7km away from the eruption site. This is taken with 70-200/2.8IS at about 70mm. "

I sure hope he also posts his video. It sounds equally spectacular:
"I got some pretty cool video that I did with 300mm/2.8IS + 2x extender. It´s super close of a cloud that has lightning in it. Problem is.. I´m stuck in Iceland, and this rig ain´t good for 1080p editing."

Not so much fun, though, if you are stuck in Germany.

Not so much fun if you are stuck in Germany? Oh I don't know, I lived there amongst it's citizens for a number of years, I can think of a bazillion things to photograph if I was stuck there :D Let alone chow on some very much missed Turkish food and good German beer!
